AnnMarie Gardens

The gardens were amazing. I had never been to an outdoor art gallery before in my life. Usually you have to be in a musuem to see such interesting scuplures. However they have a connection with the Smithsonian, and get alot of interested works that are weather resistant. Because of this I got to walk around a large path a see a number of interesting works. Plus the weather was amazing and the spring flowers were blooming, so I got to see alot of interesting art, plus a beautiful walk in nature at the same time. The most interesting peice was a walkway that lead to overlook a large red sculpture. The walkway was twisted and had writing on it. The writing was supposed to fade over the years to show wear and tear of time. New writings will be written and someday forgotten. It was a very provocitive peice that could only exist outside. I highly recommend everyone go see it, if they get a chance. Below is a picture of fountain as you come into the gardens.

Mandrake

I attended the Mandrake saterday night. I was plesantly surprised. I didnt think Machiavelli could be funny after reading the Prince a few years back. However the play was filled with comedy, while some of the comedic value came from the main characters, most of it came from the Zanni. A group of characters who didn't speak but instead made funny noises and did alot of slap stick comedy in the background while the play was going on. It was a very odd thing at first, because I have never seen a play that had so many things going on in the background taking away from what was going on up front. I enjoyed the theme of the play, tricking an old man to allow someone to sleep with his wife. This was done by posing as a doctor and stating that if you give her this potion she will be furtile, however the first person to sleep with her will die eight days later. This set up allowed the old man to find someone off the street to sleep with his wife so he would absorb the posion. It was very funny to see the crazness of the plot work. I also really enjoyed the masks everyone wore, it was very humorous. I give it two thumbs up!

Laughing RoomOnly

I recently have been working with the patuxant play house none profit organization as a marketing consultant. Their performances have been underviewed. I got the chance to go see their latest production, called Laughing Room Only. The performance is as follows: Gloria Alexander is about to lose the dilapidated hotel, Whispering Pines for back-taxes. She’d gladly sell the place, but there are no takers. Enter two state officials, with plans to make the hotel a base for a sting operation. They give out the word that the hotel will accept stolen goods, hoping to catch a number of petty criminals operating in the area. Soon the lobby is populated by a parade of cheerful weirdoes like ultra-cool Rondo Muldoon, Irma the bag lady, jewel thieves, a bewildered society leader and frantic young lovers. They’re all fairly normal compared to the clever handyman, Putney, who dreams of being a recluse. One hilarious complication collides with another up to the climax when each visitor turns out to have an unsuspected, rib-tickling reason for being at the hotel.

The play was seen by about 50 people which was sad because it was a very good performance and i wish more people had gotten the chance to see it. Everyone on stage was extreemly rapped up in their roll, they all seemed to ad lib funny lines, and totally get into the characters head. The result was a very good performance. I laughed throughout most of the entire play. From slap-stick comedy to the way characters interacted withone anouther, the play was a total successs. I can't wait for their next production.

African Art Museum

I got anouther chance to travel to washington DC, and I got to see the African Art museum which i had never been to. The walt disney foundation donated most of the peices of art in this museum. I had never before seen african art. Most of the peices of art were small figurines, made of ivory or wood. These statues had such intricate detail they were very appealing to look at. This museum has changed the way people looked at african art because it had never really looked at before. Most of the statues are of people however other are of gods. These statues were really very interesting, I am very happy that i got a chance to view such different works than the usual. My trip to washington DC was a very successful and very eye opening experience.

Hirshhorn

Over spring break I traveled to DC in order to see a few art museums. I travled to the Hirshhorn a got to see a few very interesting peices of art. My favorite piece was a wall size mural that when you looked at it straight ahead it was one mural when you stood on the left side it looked like a different mural and when you looked at it from the right it looked like yet a different mural. This was done by creating the peice with triangle strips that were an inch deep giving the perspective of three different peices of art. The other exzibhit that caught my eye was a 30 minute video done by a pyromaniac. He setup a warehouse filled with a dominoe like effect but fire. the flame would travel through a set up path where many different interesting things happened to make the flame travel to the next station. The Hirshhorn is a very interesting art museum it holds some of the wierdest looking peice of art, and very few classic paintings. It was a delight to get to see something new.

Oil art?

The internet is a mode in which people can get access to every peice of infomation they could possibly want. The oil program is an odd piece of art. However it could not be done in any other way than on the internet. The internet being a global market place has prices for every good and service you could possible want. Since the market place fluxuates the oil price program is a very unique way of looking at the price of things. Rather than seeing a big screen tv costs 1500$ it would show up as 10 barrels of oil. Personally i don't consider this art i consider it more of a way of changing dollars and cents into anouther monitary scale. Its like a program that changes dollars into euros. Art is a wide feild and some people might consider this art. I veiw it as more of a political ploy, however it is a very interesting peice and I enjoyed taking the time to look at it.

Drawing

Well I can't draw free hand at all. What i want this to turn out like is as follows. A train will be going into the earth to show the underground railroad. In the other picture the train will be coming out of the earth with Booth sitting on top with a smoking gun in his hand. This should turn out much better on the computer than it did in person

Cut-ups

I found the article to be very interesting. Before reading it i asumed it was going to speak only about photos. However I found that it is used in poety. Taking the lines and cuting them and pasting them into anouther part of the work can create completely new meanings and new works with old words. The question I would like to pose is, what form of art would be most benifted by cut-ups and which would be least benifted by cut-ups.

Cardif

Her work was very interesting to listion to. The three layers of sound were very evident. The footsteps in the middle ground her voice in the foreground and the birds/beach etc in the background. She made the audio tour very clean. you could only hear what she wanted you to hear, which was very well done, the ambient noise was completely removed, making the world seem forgien, and intreguing. I kind of wish I could take the audio tour because her peices seem to fit the senery where it is located very well, and by only hearing it online I feel as though i am missing a great deal of her work.

My Audio Journy

I recorded the car, the talking, the dinosour noises The rest are from the free sound projec.

DJ FOOD

After hearing DJ Food's raiding the 20th century, i found myself questioning his motives. He did this to try and catalouge this history of transforming music in the 20th century. Using artists such as the Beastie Boy's and Jay-Z and Busta Rymes. He took their music and mixed in other sounds, such as scratching. His sound was very interesting to listen to. He does a great job of making a point with his bizzar peice. Taking the beats of songs and putting them behind rap superstars, fading out of songs and going back to old time radio sounding talking. One could analyze this peice in a college disertation. If you haven't have time to listen to this peice you definately SHOULD!!!! DJ FOOD

Bart Simpson

The bart edit was interesting. However removing a word makes the sound clip no longer run smoothly. After we removed makeup test, her voice was at a different pitch than she was at before makeup was said, therefor it sounded edited and was kind of disapointing.

DJ Herc

DJ HERC AKA Clive Campbell "I;m not stealing all their music. I'm using your drum tack, I'm using this little "bip" from him, I'm using your baseline that you don't even like no fucking more."
Using a detournement banal, he takes individual peices of artworks (songs) and using them as building materials, to create his own work. DJ take other works, and mix them, scratch them, and carefully craft a playlist that fills their own musical creative ideas to the best of their abilities. DJ Herc is "According to All Music Guide, he was the originator of break-beat DJing, where the breaks of funk songs—being the most danceable part, often featuring percussion—were isolated and repeated for the purpose of all-night dance parties (AMG [1]). Later DJs such as Grandmaster Flash refined and developed the use of breakbeats, including cutting."

Rice is Nice!

Have you ever wanted to get a message out the world, and wanted a creative way togo about doing so? Often times I wanted to make people aware of issues that are important to me. Annina Rust has created an interesting peice that does just that! The eRiceCooker, this peice searches the internet for any articles deailing with genetically modified rice. When an article is found rice is added to the cooker. When enough of the rice is added to the cooker water is then added and the rice is cooked! Then emails are sent out inviting you to eat the rice. The more articles writen the more rice cooked, the more rice cooked the more people become aware of the GM rice issue. A very interesting work. Check it out for yourself, eRiceCooker!
